There's just two weeks left until Solarcan day. Ar There's just two weeks left until Solarcan day. Are you ready?! 💫

This fabulous shot was captured by @owlturbot with Solarcan production number 34,900! He calls the shot Sussex sun and here's what he had to say about it:

"My first attempt with the Solarcan, taken from the corner of our house and looking up the street. The Solarcan was installed onto a drainpipe, but I think it moved position slightly at some stage during the year so the houses aren't fully sharp."

We think it's brilliant, Phil. A full year of sun preserved into a single image. Simply AMAZING!

A breathtaking Solarcan capture by Erin Pinhasov, A breathtaking Solarcan capture by Erin Pinhasov, who shared the following with us via the submission page:

“It’s my fifth solargraph with a Solarcan, this time I was curious to see how would it work with a shiny object. Fortunately, there is a huge statue near my office which had the potential to fulfill my desire… This is a 6 month summer capture, started on 21/June/2024. Due to the relatively high angle of the sun around here I re-built a tilted mounting stand in order not to cut the top part of the sun during summer solstice. Turned out to be a strong image, although I was hoping to see more sun streaks on the statue, maybe I need to come closer 😉”

Eran’s image has been added to the Solarcan worldmap. You can also find a making of video on his Youtube channel.

How did the World’s Simplest Camera capture this How did the World’s Simplest Camera capture this remarkable image?

John Andrews (@stimulightthenight ) of Hudson, Wisconsin, USA told us here:

“ This is a 6-month long exposure photo taken with the Solar Can Puck. I aimed it facing south on the beach of the St. Croix River to capture the sun’s path each day from December 26, 2023, to June 26, 2024. I intentionally exposed this photo from the winter solstice to the summer solstice to capture the sun’s lowest and highest paths in the sky. “

The Solarcan Puck is in stock and ready to ship!

Remember the Solar Eclipse in April? Kevin Hoelsch Remember the Solar Eclipse in April? Kevin Hoelscher certainly does. This absolutely INCREDIBLE 3 hour exposure captures the moment our Moon passed in front of the Sun.

Taken in Richford, Vermont, @d.j.kevykev says the #Solarcan PUCK has a pretty impressive exposure latitude, revealing detail in the foreground and the Sun’s path.

Thanks for sharing Kevin. This is a true 10/10 shot!

This is the most extraordinary capture using a #So This is the most extraordinary capture using a #Solarcan by the incredibly talented @nicspenceryork - but what exactly are we seeing?

It's called an "Analemma" and is the result of a year's hard work by Nic. Every few days at exactly the same time Nic uncovered the Solarcan pinhole and let sunlight pass through. Over the course of 12 months these little exposures create a figure of 8 pattern, showing the Sun's changing position in our sky.

We promised that anyone able to create an analemma with a Solarcan would be sent a bag of goodies - and Nic, we can assure you that one is on its way to you!

Thank you and congratulations on the magnificent result!

Yesterday was Solarcan Day and we were inundated w Yesterday was Solarcan Day and we were inundated with incredible captures of the Sun's path from across the globe, using both Solarcan and Puck cameras!

But, OH WOW. Jason Passmore aka @eaglekepr shook the entire community with this pair of astonishing PUCK timelapses.

Top: Facing East(ish)
Bottom: Facing South

Every exposure from each frame is approximately 10 days worth of sunlight, which appears to be the optimal amount.

We are stunned 😍

"My 31,536,000 second exposure for the last year! The can was distorted when I mounted the Solarcan but left it to see the final impact.
The image is distorted from the nice curves expected if the can had not been distorted.
I had adjusted the angle of the Solarcan and as a result captured the full range of solar elevation through the year (previous angles had missed peak at summer solstice).
See video of the excitement of deploying last year! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xpj9Jkob6Nk

Had hoped to deploy a Puck beside it for the day - but alas cloud for the last few days"

5 Days to Solarcan Day 💫 Cor, this beauty was 5 Days to Solarcan Day 💫

Cor, this beauty was sent in all the way from Cape Town, South Africa by all round superstar and educator Gareth Evans.

Gareth mounted his Solarcan at a 35 degree angle, but the Sun’s altitude in Cape Town during their Summer (December) is still too high! He says he’ll try again soon.

Even so, we think it’s brilliant!
